Jennifer
Johnson Jarrell, Partner
Jennifer Jarrell began her
career working for her home state Senator
and Senate Whip, Al Simpson. Although
she started working in the U.S. Senate,
Jarrell also worked in the U.S. House
of Representatives. Her Western background
is combined with her 19 years experience
on Capitol Hill where she has dealt
with issues affecting the federal government
and all 50 states.
Jarrell is a founder of the Government
Affairs business at Washington Strategies,
LLC. Begun in January of 2001, Jarrell
helped grow the lobby shop into a top-rated
appropriations partnership and acts
as managing director of the firm. Her
lobbying expertise focuses on the issue
areas of appropriations, energy and
natural resources, education, transportation,
and budget issues.
Having grown up in Montana and Wyoming,
Jarrell began her federal service in
1991, working in the United States
Senate as an aide to Assistant Republican
Leader Alan K. Simpson (R-WY). Her
four years of service to the influential
Whip gave her insight into Senate leadership
circles and forged strong relationships
with senior Members and staff of the
U.S. Senate. Jarrell finished her seven
years of Capitol Hill experience in
the office of U.S. Representative Joel
Hefley (R-CO), a senior Member of the
Natural Resources and Armed Services
Committees. Jarrell served in both
administrative and legislative positions
for Hefley and was responsible for
the issue areas of education, health
care, natural resources and foreign
affairs.
Off Capitol Hill, Jarrell worked as
a Government Affairs Director of an
international defense company for nearly
three years, educating the firm in
U.S. Congressional legislation and
Capitol Hill politics. She also worked
for three years as a lobbyist concentrating
on appropriations, Native American
and natural resources issues at a top
Washington, DC, law firm then ranked
number five in lobbying strength.
Jarrell has extensive legislative,
political campaign and political fund
raising experience as she has served
as a professional fundraiser for political
candidates including Senator Mike Enzi
(R-WY), Representative John Peterson
(R-PA) and the Western Political Action
Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Jarrell has also worked on various
political campaigns over the years
in the states of Wyoming, Montana,
Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia
and Arkansas.
Jarrell
holds a degree in corporate management
from Florida
Atlantic University
and is a member of her neighborhood’s
charity committee. She has been active
with the Board of the Wyoming State
Society and is also a founder and Board
Member of Western Watch, a national
public policy organization dedicated
to preserving and improving the quality
of life for Western and rural Americans.
